Piney recognizes firefighters

The RM of Piney council recently recognized the dedication of their volunteer fire department by hosting an appreciation barbeque for all their members.

On September 22, the volunteer firefighters from Sprague and Piney gathered in Vassar for the first ever firefighter’s appreciation barbeque.

According to RM of Piney councillor Sian Barrow, this was the first time the municipality officially showed the many volunteers how grateful they are for their dedication to the community.

“It seems this was the first such event that has been held in the municipality,” stated Barrow. “A good time was had by all.”

Not only was it a change for the municipality to show their appreciation to the many volunteers, it also gave the departments a chance to show off their equipment. As part of the celebration, the Piney Fire Department brought their new rescue vehicle to the gathering and the Sprague Fire Department brought their 6×6 which was recently purchased to put out grass fires.

Members from two of the RM of Piney fire departments recently met in Vassar for an official appreciation bbq and to show off their equipment to their counterparts.
