New playground equipment in Landmark

The new playground equipment in Landmark Community Park is a big hit with the kids.

The children in Landmark have a new, safer place to play thanks to the dedication of a group of local volunteers.

During the third week of August the weather cooperated while the Playground Equipment for Landmark Committee, along with a group of volunteers, installed brand new playground equipment. The project included the removal of the old equipment, cutting down trees and preparing a new play area in the Landmark Park, which is located across from the Landmark Collegiate.

Jenny Plett, Chairperson for the Playground Equipment for Landmark Committee, is thrilled to see the playground being enjoyed by local children.

“Although our playground order was missing a few pieces when it arrived, we had a great week for installation,” explained Plett. “It’s been great to see the kids playing on the structures and having a fun time figuring out all of the structures. It is my hope that once the benches are installed, parents of young children will be able to relax and watch their kids play in a safe and fun environment.”

Over the past few years the Playground Equipment for Landmark Committee has been raising money to revitalize the main community park and two tot lots within the community, revitalize the tennis courts and build a path through the park.

“The tennis court also has a smooth and brightly painted surface, new posts were mounted and a new net installed,” added Plett. “It has been great to see the tennis court being used again.”

While the committee is thrilled to have installed the new equipment for the community’s children there have already been some problems with vandalism.

“Unfortunately, we have already noticed signs of misuse and vandalism in the park and tennis court,” added Plett. “We hope that people will pitch in and help us keep an eye on the park so it can last for many years.”

There are still plans to build a brick path through the park, a beach volleyball court, skateboard pad and a picnic shelter.
