The most recent group of Air Cadets training at Harv’s Air just south of Steinbach have finished their training and have headed home after another successful summer.
Seventeen young men spent the summer training for their private pilot’s licenses at a Steinbach training school as part of their experience with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
This is the ninth year that Harv’s Airport in Steinbach has been chosen by the Department of National Defense and the Air Transportation Association of Canada to host the cadets.
The group arrived at Harv’s Air at the beginning of July and began the 7-week ground school program the next day. Each prospective pilot also spent 45 hours in the air, learning how to fly.
A second group, consisting of ten young women, also graduated through Harv’s Air, but they took their training in St. Andrews.
Air Cadets is just one section of Cadets Canada which is the largest federally sponsored youth program in Canada. It is a national program for young Canadians ages 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of challenging and rewarding activities, and learning more about the Canadian Forces.
