On June 19, the community of Niverville was tuned into the Discovery Channel when local race car driver David Richert was featured in a documentary.
The hour long documentary called “Racing Under Green featured Richert, as he and other drivers competed in the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. The racing series was launched the year before as way to introduce clean diesel technology to the U.S. market and develop the best of motorsport’s up-and-coming talent.
For the past two racing seasons, Richert earned the right to race in this series and in his second year he was one of only a handful of drivers who were selected to be featured in the documentary.
During the 2009 season, the film crew made the trek up to Niverville to spend a day with Richert as he took time to visit with local media, harvested his father’s fields, and prepared for an upcoming race.
“It was a blast to have the crew out and show them how I lived life here. We even lucked out and were able to get them on a combine to take part in the harvest action of southern Manitoba,” stated Richert. “I’ve had many people ask what life is like as a race car driver, now is their chance to see.”
The documentary follows the drivers over a seven month period as they advance from Volkswagen Driver Selection to competing at some of North America’s greatest race tracks.
