Bike drive successful

Over forty underprivileged children received gently used bikes last month thanks to the generosity of the community and many donors.

In May, the Dawson Trail Dispatch put out a call for used bikes on behalf of the Eastman Recreation Opportunities for Children. The group, spearheaded by Moni Loewen was looking for donations of bikes so that the organization could present them to children throughout the region that may otherwise never own one.

As a result of readers’ response, the group collected over forty bikes.

“Eastman Recreation Opportunities for Children (ROC) collected over 40 bikes in record time and all of our families now have usable bikes this summer,” stated Loewen. “In addition, KidSport actually jumped on board and gave us bike helmets for all the children – we could not have done it without folks like you helping us along the way.”

The gently used bikes and helmets found new homes in Niverville, Ile des Chenes, St. Malo, Grunthal, Steinbach, La Broquerie and many places in between.
